Bodies the Exhibition

Tonight I went to Bodies the Exhibition. It was amazing. They were able to perserve human parts and show them to us. Basically we were able to see what is inside of us. They showed us a healthy lung compared to a smokers lung, the brain after a stroke, and much more stuff. I so appriecative of my body after learning how everything works. My plan for the 2008 year is to go on a diet and this exhibit helped me see literally where everything goes and how it all works together. I mean afterwards we did go spilt a double chocolate brownie. Its not 2008 yet so don't judge. The exhibit travels all aroudn so if it comes to your neck of the woods then go see it. Here's the website to see when its coming or too learn a little more about what they do.

Gotta love Christmas

Christmas has come once again. This year was a little out of the norm. Usually we all go up as a family and spend Christmas Eve with my Dad's side of the family. This year however my dad had to work and my brother, although he was home, wasn't able to come to celebrate. So my mom and I headed out on our own. There was a little bit of a problem. The Chargers were playing at 5 and the party started at 6. So I made the suggestion to go to a local sports bar to watch the game and then go over there during half time and watch the rest of it. Brill ant right? I called my cousin and she got her mom and brother along with my other aunt and uncle to come too. We ended up having half the party at the bar. I felt kind of bad that we took away from the festivities but its the Chargers. They won by the way so it was a great Christmas after all!

San Marcos hear I come!

I applied for the San Marcos teaching credential program about a month ago. They said they would get back to us in a week. Well its been more then a week so I kind of ruled it out. I have been looking at other options on what to make of this life of mine and have come up with some great options. I have had a couple of different job opportunities that will help me go forward in life. I was looking at 2008 as my year! While this morning I found out that I got in the program! I feel that my cup has been runneth over lately with all the blessings the Lord is giving me. My only problem now is figure out what awesome option to choose from. But it may look like that the young minds of the future are going to learn their math skills from me. Cal State San Marcos is know for thier education program so I am really honored that they have accepted me in their program. I think the mascot is the cougar. Do you think it will still work if I wear the BYU cougar gear that I already have?

Christmas in May

I am doing my shopping in May next year. I just got home from spending 4 hours getting only a couple of items from 2 different places. I already knew what I wanted and was thinking I was going to be in then out. I didn't calculate everyone else trying to get in and out. It took forever to get home. Traffic doesn't really bring in the holiday cheer!

Never leave home without it!

I have been working at the temple for 3 weeks now. I finally went to bed early and got up early to really get ready. When I got to the temple I couldn't find my recommend anywhere!! I talked to the front desk and they had to talk to the presidency to see if I could come in. So I thought I was getting blessed but then I was making so many mistakes during my shift. It was more then just messing up on the words. I accidentally poked a girl in the eye, sent someone who was all dressed in her temple clothes out in the lobby, and other embarrassing things. Not sure if I was being taught a lesson on always bringing your recommend to the temple. Minor detail.

Department 56

A couple of weeks ago I went with Shelby to get her first addition to her Department 56 village. We spent like 2 hours picking one out. We were first going for the Dickens Village but after much debating we went for the original snow village. We first said no to it right away but then they started to warm up to it till we loved it. Well it was all fun for her but I was convinced on the villages too. So Shelby was nice enough to buy me my first piece for Christmas. Its a high school and it lights up. I am going to save money through out the next year so I can buy another one next year and continue to add on each year. You should check out the website. Such cute things. http://www.department56.com/

Ellen Take 2

Last May Shelby and I went to the Ellen Degeneres Show. We waited in line forever and literally right before we were about to go in they cut us off! We were bummed but they did say we could come back anytime and get guarantee tickets plus we got a free cd. So it wasn't a bad trip. Well we decided to get our tickets right around the 12 days of give away. We got in line again and when the girl came out to tell us about the show she said it was going to be airing Jan 9th. Again another bummer. We learned that Scott Baio, some health girl and a child piano player were coming on. We weren't too excited. We got in and they gave us front row seats. Then Ellen surprised us all. It looks she had one more give away! She gave us a really nice Italian cookbook, the game brain age and a Nintendo DS. Then last but not least we won a trip to Las Vegas!! Its a three day and two night stay at the new planet hollywood hotel. We are given tickets to see Stomp and a dinner at the buffet. Merry Christmas to us. Even without all that it was a really fun show! My parents were excited for they Nintendo DS. They haven't given it back to me so I can play it.

Christmas is not Christmas without Christmas Sweaters!

We had our ward Christmas party this saturday and the instructions were to wear our old christmas sweater. So of course we went all out.
Unfortunately no one else decided to get into the Christmas spirit. They just wanted to look nice to impress all the guys. Well all the guys were talking to me telling me how awesome my sweater was. Who ended up impressing who?

I did try to dazzle everyone with my piano skills.
Silly people didn't realize it was a self playing piano.

The Temple

This morning I started working at the temple. It was amazing. I got to be apart of so many things. I was a little tired though. I kind of stayed out late the night before. But other then that I think it was a great way to start my saturday. And I got invited to go to a fireside in January with President Monson. I have no problem with that.

Good Ol' Gingerbread House

At our family home evening last night we made ginger bread houses. I am not bragging because we made it but ours was the best! We even got really detailed in our house.

There is a wreath on our door, Christmas tree to the side.
We have our logs to the side if it gets cold.
There is a snow sprinkled all over the house. The snow was brown but still good.
And what house would be complete with our a little pie on the window seal. And if you look carefully on the chimney Santa's feet our hanging out because he dove in head first.
It really is the most wonderful time of the year!

BYU takes over San Diego

Because of the fires about a month ago the BYU vs SDSU game was rescheduled for last night. Now usually when you go to a home game you think there would be more fans for the home team. That was not the case for this game. When BYU scored more then half of the fans were cougar fans! BYU killed SDSU. It was a little bit of a flashback to those fun games in Provo, UT. Go Cougars!

It beginning to look alot like Christmas

Yesterday I headed to LA to help Shelby decorate her house for the holidays. It was a really rainy day so it was fun to stay inside and get warmed up. We put the movie Elf on and drank caramel apple cider from Starbucks. A perfect combo if you ask me. We then went to pick out lighted buildings from Department 56. She is going to start to buy one every year. These villages are so cute. Everyone of them have so much detail to them. We spent like a couple of hours trying to figure out which theme to go with and then which buildings to start with. I kind of wanted to start them myself. Despite the rain and horrible traffic going there, it was way fun to sing Christmas songs and decorate for the holidays. Yea for Christmas!

I love my brother!

Throughout the years I have always been the one to go away for either school or a mission but today my brother left me for Rhode Island. He is starting his training for becoming a navy seal. He is one of the top elite men of the country. What a stud! I am very proud of him. This has been his dream since he was a kid. So there are mixed emotions when I dropped him off at the airport. I am going to miss him so much but I know he will do will. When you think about those people who are fighting for our freedom then you can add Matthew Cobas to the top of the list.

Tamale Day

I love tamale day. Its a Cobas tradition to make tamales the saturday after thanksgiving. We work hard all day and have tons of food afterwards. We invite family and friends. At the end of the day most people are full of food and pretty drunk. Okay I don't really like the drunk part but I do love the day before that. Here are just some pics of all of us working hard and get a batch in before 1 so we can eat at a decent hour.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Well the holidays are just great, right? We had all of the Cobas Clan over for dinner and then added the Shiomis (my moms side) over for dessert. There was like 30 to 35 people at our house and let me tell you this; our house is not that big. But overall it was really great seeing all the family, hearing the latest gossip and eating some pretty fantastic food.

Road trip

My friend Caroline had a job interview at the MTC this last weekend. She was trying to figure out how she was going to get up there when I came up with the brilliant idea that us girls should go on a road trip. I was thinking this was going to be fun and easy with no problems. Well it was definitely fun but the easy and no problems was not the case. We left wednesday and stayed at my uncle's house in Vegas. We walked along the strip and took tons on pics. The next morning we kept heading north. We stopped in St George and met with one of Caroline's companion's family. We finally madeit to Utah about 5. While I was catching up with Jen and her newly engaged self and Katie was having dinner with a friend, Caroline was discovering that Salt Lake is not filled with all honest mormons. While she was having dinner our car got broken into. I have to say it was one of the dumbest break ins that I have ever seen. They tried to take the radio which is worth about 50 dollars but didn't take it. They did take her camera which is one of the first digital cameras around so it was worth with 25 bucks. It did have all of our fun pictures on it so we were bummed about that. Thats why there isn't any pictures from the trip. I let Caroline use mine since she was going to see a lot of friends she hasn't seen in a while. But other then that they broke my FM transmitter for the iPod and threw her chapstick on the ground and left. So the next day was spent fixing the car. I had fun though. I was able to see two of my girls graduate from the program I worked at. I got my haircut, saw a movie, went swing dancing. It was quick and I wish I would have been able to see alot more people but next time.

We went up to temple square and saw the Joseph Smith movie. I loved it. I may have shed a few tears.

This is me and my mission buddy Kammy. One of the only pics I got of my friends.

Who says Halloween in over

There was suppose to be a halloween boat dance right before halloween but because of the fires it was rescheduled for last night. Which was good for me because I had to work on the night of the original boat dance. It was fun filled night of dancing and friends. I was a pirate. I got really into my character and threaten to make any one that was not having fun to walk the plank. The dance started at 11 and didn't get done till 2 in the morning. I got home around 330 am! I was so tired by the end of the night. I don't know how I use to be able to do these late nights just a couple of years ago. But all and all it was a great evening!

Girl Power!

I was having kind of a tough day. Just had a hard time to being motivated and was a little down. As I was going to work I hit a rock and ended up popping my tire. I took this little misfortune to change my whole day. Instead of crying even more of my day I literally rolled up my sleeves and got to work. I changed my own tire! I had one random guy walk past and asked if I knew how to do it then kept walking and cars that passed by without stopping. So I was on my own! I got down and dirty. And afterwards an old lady who was gardening congratulated me on being able to change a tire. I felt so much better and accomplished afterwards!!

A light at the end of the tunnel

The evacuation for our area of Fallbrook has been lifted. One quick thought: why did they call us to tell us that our evacuation has been lifted? If my parents listen to them then they shouldn't be there to get the call. But whatever.
So I am going to head home tonight. There is still tons of smoke but our house looks safe. No camp outs or bon fires for me for a while.

Tuesday, October 23, 2007

Update

Well it was all fun and games until someone needs to evacuate. The fire was at first taken lightly and a great excuse to skip work but now its starting to get a little serious. The rice fire is the one that is most threatening to us. We have been on the look out all throughout the night and today. My parents are still at the house and waiting till they have to leave. My brother and I took off. We packed some bags with personal stuff and headed for safety. He is at his friend's parents house and I went up to LA where my grandma and Shelby are. From what it sounds like the fire is heading north west from us. Hopefully the winds continue to agree with us and keep calm so we can control the fire. Tough time for So Cal but we are handling it like pros.

Anyone up for S'mores

So I went into work today and was getting the guys ready for the day and also listening to the news. I heard that they were evacuating north of 76. I paused for a second and said hey I am north of the 76. They proceeded to say people east of I-5 and west of I-15. Again I thought hey thats me! I jumped in my car and headed home. As I continue to listen to the radio I guess it was 56 not the 76. 56 is a lot farther south then I am. But I was already half way home so I decided to just keep going.
The fires down here are a little out of control. We are okay and safe for now. There is a fire by us but it is not heading in our direction. The mayor came out and advised those that could stay home from work to do so. I took that counsel to heart and took the day off. It was a hard decision but I feel it is very important to follow our local leaders.
So we are just sitting here waiting hoping the winds don't shift to much.

A quick trip to Utah

I just got back from a quick trip up to Utah. I went mainly for Emily's wedding. It was a beautiful day and wedding. She just looked as happy as could be. Which is pretty good since it was her wedding day.

.

I have to admit when I got to Utah I forgot how beautiful it gets in the fall. On saturday there was a snow fall. I didn't want to go anywhere because I HATE driving in the snow. It was gorgeous to see the snow lay upon the mountain.

I also got to be apart of a last minute murder mystery party. One of the couples backed out so I stepped in as the father of the groom. It was a little bit of a stretch but we made it work.
It was a great trip. I really miss Utah. The idea ran across my head if I should come back but I think I will stick with San Diego for a little longer.

New Layouts

So I thought I would get into the halloween/fall spirit. There is a website that has some fun blogs if you are tired of the ones we have to choose from. I know I was. It does erase your quick links though. I am not sure nor do I know how to fix it. Some times it costs to have a cute blog background.

Have fun with your blog.

A new game

So last night we had game night like usual. We were playing scum but me and Katie had a game of our own. We took a blue blow pop and bet who could get our tongues the bluest. We were pretty serious about it. Its the simple things in life that can make a fun memory.

My friend came to visit

My friend Melissa came to visit me for a couple of days. It was her fall break from UVSC so she headed west to enjoy it. We spent the first day in LA. We went to go see the taping of The Price is Right.
We then walked down the hollywood walk of fame. Checking out the stars and handprints.

There was even one star for Melissa Gilbert so we just covered up the Gilbert and pretended it was our star.
We then watched the most amazing musical Wicked!
The next day I took her sailing, in n out and downtown San Diego.

And what trip could be complete without a trip to the San Diego Temple.

It was great spending time with a good friend. If anyone else feels they need to come down here and visit me I am totally for it!

I ditched work today (shh! don't tell)

Shelby has the day off on tuesdays and usually I have to be with one of my clients but she is out of town this week so I headed to Monrovia since my other clients I am able to see later on in the week. And it was a great day! We had a girl time which I always love. Okay anytime with her is a great time. First I got there and she showed me costumes and clothes of her dog Lexie.
We then went to lunch and then shopping. I had to get a new outfit for an upcoming wedding and well she just loves to shop. I learn that we show very differently.

I with no clothes and her with tons!
Then we tried everything on and to see what looks good. I thought it would be funny to take some pictures while she was dressing. She didn't think it was so funny.

but then she went along with it and posed.

She did get me back though...
I got a cute outfit, a snack and went back to her place where we had sushi and watched a movie.

It was a great time being with Shelby. Far enough from reality to enjoy life but not too far that I couldn't find my way home.
